Bill Clinton & Jeremiah Wright

WRIGHT INVITED TO WHITE HOUSE

Hillary Clinton has been rather quiet about the Jeremiah Wright issue even though she is silently trying to take advantage of it in the downturn of public opinion towards Obama.

However, if we maintain (contrary to what UCC’s own white pastor says) that Jeremiah Wright has been giving racist, anti-American messages to his congregation for 20 years… why did the Clinton’s formally invite him to the White House?

Bill Clinton & Jeremiah Wright

Bill Clinton and Jeremiah Wright are photographed among a group of clerics and others at the annual prayer breakfast in September 1998. Sen. Hillary Clinton, then first lady, was also in the room for the prayer breakfast.

Perhaps the media portrayal we have of Wright, is not the one that the Clinton’s knew of. Otherwise, why would they invite a so-called “outspoken racist and anti-American” pastor to their once-a-year prayer breakfast?

With black voters heavily backing Bill Clinton, it would be hard to believe he (or White House personnel) did not know of Wright’s reputation at one of the largest churches in Chicago.

Governor Bill Richardson to Endorse Obama

OBAMA GAINS ANOTHER SUPERDELEGATE

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, the nation’s only Hispanic governor, is endorsing Sen. Barack Obama for president, calling him a “once-in-a- lifetime leader”. Richardson, a superdelegate, is scheduled to make a formal announcement alongside Obama at a campaign event in Portland.

‘Once-in-a-lifetime leader’

“I believe he is the kind of once-in-a-lifetime leader that can bring our nation together and restore America’s moral leadership in the world,” Richardson said. “As a presidential candidate, I know full well Sen. Obama’s unique moral ability to inspire the American people to confront our urgent challenges at home and abroad in a spirit of bipartisanship and reconciliation,” Richardson said.

Richardson is a two-term governor, eight-term congressman, and former 2008 presidential candidate. He served as ambassador to the United Nations and as secretary of the Energy Department during the Clinton administration. Richardson is still close friends with the Clinton’s and watched the Super Bowl with Bill at the New Mexico governor’s mansion earlier this year.

  • (As I have said before, what does it say that some of the people who know the Clinton’s the best, are publicly endorsing Obama?)

‘The judgment we need’

Richardson went on to say, “There is no doubt in my mind that Barack Obama has the judgment and courage we need in a commander in chief when our nation’s security is on the line.”

Richardson described Hillary Clinton as “a distinguished leader” but said Obama “will be a historic and great president, who can bring us the change we so desperately need by bringing us together as a nation here at home and with our allies abroad.”

Obama said he was “deeply honored” to have Richardson’s support and said: `Whether it’s fighting to end the Iraq war or stop the genocide in Darfur or prevent nuclear weapons from falling into the hands of terrorists, Gov. Richardson has been a powerful voice on issues of global security, peace and justice, earning five Nobel Peace Prize nominations.”

Bill Richardson joins this growing list of endorsements for Barack Obama.

Jeremiah Wright: The Man We Love To Hate

“The truth is, that isn’t all that I know of the man.”

This is what Obama has said about Jeremiah Wright’s widely distributed statements. It’s true that if the media constantly reprinted the “anti-American” remarks of this other black preacher (as much as they do the “God Damn America” snippet from Wright) we might have a different memory of the man below:

Don’t let anybody make you think that God chose America as His divine messianic force to be — a sort of policeman of the whole world. … I can hear God saying to America: “You are too arrogant! If you don’t change your ways, I will rise up and break the backbone of your power, and I will place it in the hands of a nation that doesn’t even know my name.”

Scandalous? Perhaps. The speech above was from Martin Luther King, Jr.

The point is, out of hundreds of sermons that are available for sale to the public from Jeremiah Wright - the media has only found three passages to broadcast over and over again. Surely such a hate-mongering man would have more sermons to pull from?

THE SHORTEST SERMONS EVER

We get 30 second sound bites from 45 minute sermons. This fuels our fury for Wright’s lifetime of preaching. How many people outside of his congregation have heard any sermons in context?

Obama Speech: Race, Unity & Jeremiah Wright

Barack Obama gave a speech in Philadelphia today addressing race, his pastor and unity in general.

On unity: I chose to run for the presidency at this moment in history because I believe deeply that we cannot solve the challenges of our time unless we solve them together – unless we perfect our union by understanding that we may have different stories, but we hold common hopes.

On Rev. Wright: I can not disown him just as I can not disown my white grandmother (who loved me) but once confessed her fear of black men who passed her on the streets. The profound mistake of Reverend Wright’s sermons is not that he spoke about racism in our society. It’s that he spoke as if our society was static; as if no progress has been made; as if this country is still irrevocably bound to a tragic past.

On his relationship with Wright: If all that I knew of Reverend Wright were the snippets of those sermons that have run in an endless loop on the television and YouTube, there is no doubt that I would react in much the same way [as others who question my association with him]. The truth is, that isn’t all that I know of the man.

On race in America: The fact is that the comments that have been made and the issues that have surfaced over the last few weeks reflect the complexities of race in this country that we’ve never really worked through – a part of our union that we have yet to perfect. And if we walk away now, if we simply retreat into our respective corners, we will never be able to come together and solve challenges like health care, or education, or the need to find good jobs for every American.

On the future:
I have never been so naïve as to believe that we can get beyond our racial divisions in a single election cycle, or with a single candidacy.

But I have asserted a firm conviction – a conviction rooted in my faith in God and my faith in the American people – that working together we can move beyond some of our old racial wounds, and that in fact we have no choice if we are to continue on the path of a more perfect union.

Good speech. We’ll see if this allows us to get back to the actual political race, instead of going back and forth on whose side can release (or drudge up) the latest inflammatory, racially-tinged remarks. Let’s acknowledge racial baggage still exists, and it’s a good idea, to at least attempt to move beyond it.

Now, if everyone, including the MEDIA, could just find some new topics… One can dream, at least.

Ferraro, the Real Monster & the Double Standard

HILLARY IS LOSING BECAUSE OF SEXISM & RACISM

The poor lamb, Mrs. Clinton, has been thoroughly vetted and tested. She has 35 years of experience. She is ready on day 1 to lead our country. And she says she brought peace to Northern Ireland.

However, she is losing to Obama because a large percentage of Americans are racist and sexist. (At least according to Clinton fundraiser and former vice-presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro.)

Ferraro said in a Friday interview, the only reason that Obama is winning, is because he is black.

“If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position,” she continued. “And if he was a woman he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”

    QUESTIONS:

    • The large amount of women (including Ferraro) who support Hillary Clinton, are they sexist?
    • The white voters in Ohio who polled that race was the most important factor in their votes, and chose Clinton 60% over Obama, are they racist?
    • When Jesse Jackson ran for President in 1984 and 1988, and later Al Sharpton ran for President in 2004, but both failed to garner enough support from whites and blacks alike, did the Presidential Affirmative Action Clause conveniently skip over them?
    • Since Obama is half-white, how does that figure into the equation?

Clinton Darkens Obama’s Face for Ads in Ohio

    HILLARY GETS ARTISTIC, BLACKENS RIVAL

Political candidates have done it before, slightly darkening images to make their opponent appear more sinister. Hillary Clinton’s camp took it one step further and heavily doctored debate footage to make Obama blacker. Presumably they forgot the widely available footage on the net which would make the contrast evident. A few DailyKos.com users noticed it first.

The ad, which was played throughout Ohio, is taken directly from her official website and her official YouTube channel. The footage was darkened so much, that the normally red background of MSNBC’s walls appear purple. Obama has a darker face, darker hair and eyebrows.

John Ararvosis of AmericaBlog compared the same debate footage from 3 different sources and noted that none of them had such a darkened hue as Hillary’s ad.

Clearly the image was darkened. The question is “why.”

The Clinton campaign finally responded to the claims. Since the footage is clearly and deliberately darkened, they decided to claim that the ad footage on DailyKos was not theirs. (Note: in spite of this lie, they have not removed the darkened footage from their own website as of yet.)

See the original DailyKos write up with images and video footage here.

Race-baiting continues to be a tool in Clinton’s artillery.

Clinton camp also lied in the ad about a subcommittee that Obama chairs, saying:

As chairman of the oversight committee charged with the force of fighting al Qaeda in Afghanistan, he was too busy running for President to hold even one hearing.

Clinton’s Profit from American Debt & Mortgage Crisis

DEBT INVESTMENT FIRM: CHELSEA EMPLOYER & LARGE CLINTON DONOR

This hedge fund company specializes in the “distressed debt market.” In other words, Avenue Capital Group profits from downturns in the economy and foreclosures and bankruptcies. Chelsea has a graduate degree and a six figure salary at Avenue Capital, so she’s clearly aware of the nature of her employer’s business.

Perhaps her aversion to the media is because she doesn’t want this question popping up?

Diane Francis calls her a “Wall Street understudy to hedge fund pirate Marc Lasry of Avenue Capital” and says,

Marc’s a big Clinton donor (no surprise there) who is also allowing Chelsea to book off time to stump for [her mother]. Avenue Capital and Mr. Lasry are fans, and beneficiaries, of the sub-prime and mortgage mess which has plagued the world economy and ruined many American families and neighborhoods. And of the current mortgage market turmoil, Mr. Lasry was quoted recently as saying it was simply “great” for business.

Is Chelsea in favor of her firm making millions at the expense of sub-prime failures and bankruptcies? Moreover, if the Clinton’s help stop the sub-prime mortgages and debt situation, how ever will they get all those hefty contributions?

    • Click here to see some of the $115,000 worth of contributions given to Hillary Clinton’s Senate and Presidential campaigns from friends at Avenue Capital as listed by the Federal Election Commission.

On her website Hillary Clinton says: Wall Street not only enabled reckless mortgage lending, it encouraged it - 1.8 million home foreclosure notices have been filed this year, a 74% increase from 2006. Now it’s time for lenders, homeowners and investors to come together to solve this crisis and stem the tide of foreclosures.

    • Investors…? As in private investment hedge fund firms that employ your daughter and contribute heavily to your campaigns?

Well at least we know the Clinton’s are working for our interests from the inside.

    Latino Superdelegate Slams Hillary Clinton

Did Hillary just give more reasons for Hispanic voters to say “Sí, Se Puede!” to team Obama?

It appears that yesterday’s big move by the Clinton campaign - replacing former campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle with current campaign manager Maggie Williams has alienated a leader within the DNC’s Hispanic community - Superdelegate Steven Ybarra, a California superdelegate who heads the voting-rights committee of the DNC Hispanic Caucus.

The e-mail noted that Clinton, who is looking to Latino voters for a boost in the Texas and Ohio primaries on March 4, scored heavily with Hispanics in her California win.

“Apparently, loyalty is not a two-way street,” he wrote. “Latino superdelegates like myself . . . will have cause to pause.”

Ybarra told The Post yesterday that the loss of Solis Doyle, a child of Mexican immigrants, just weeks before the Texas primary, where 36 percent of the population is Hispanic, was “dumb as a stump.” Of course, Ybarra probably doesn’t know that Hillary still intends to bring Solis Doyle along as an adviser (i.e. Clinton-friendly Hispanic face/voice).

Read article here: Super Latino Slams Clinton

    • Steven Ybarra is a retired civil rights attorney who operates a consultant company in California. He is a member of the Democratic National Committee and a long time political activist. SOURCE.
    • Then again… according to Hillary, he wouldn’t know what his people want anyway. As she said yesterday in Maryland, “activists don’t represent the electorate. We know that”.

Hillary Tells Reporters: Caucus States, Red States Don’t Matter

Hillary has some strong opinions on how the elections are turning out so far. Excerpts from what she told reporters today. SOURCE.

    HILLARY ON THE BLACK VOTE:

Hillary Clinton dismissed Barack Obama’s weekend wins today. She told reporters who had gathered to watch her tour a General Motors plant in Maryland that “everybody knew, you all knew, what the likely outcome of these recent contests were.”

These are caucus states by and large, or in the case of Louisiana, you know, a very strong and very proud African-American electorate, which I totally respect and understand.”

Hillary’s New Campaign Manager has Old Controversies

    NEW CAMPAIGN MANAGER, OLD CONTROVERSIES

At this critical juncture, why Hillary Clinton would bring on someone with such a controversial past as Maggie Williams baffles me a bit. Williams had served as the First Lady’s Chief-of-Staff during Bill Clinton’s first term in office but left amid a flurry of controversy.

So… why her, now? My theories:

    1. Hillary needed to make a scapegoat out of former campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle, and the timing to replace her with someone else was too short. Using Maggie makes it appear as though it was the plan all along.
    2. Maggie Williams is African-American. Just as Solis Doyle appealed to Hispanic voters in Latina and Latina Style magazines highlighting her status as Clinton’s campaign manager, perhaps now Maggie can recoup some of the African-American voters lost in the recent months.
    3. Desperate times call for desperate measures. New plan of action to come from Hillary camp?

In any case, a bit on Ms. Maggie Williams from NPR News Blog:

Williams left the White House in 1998 after questions arose about her relationship with controversial Democratic fund raiser Johnny Chung, who was convicted of bank fraud, tax evasion, and two misdemeanor counts of conspiring to violate election law. Williams had also faced allegations during the first Clinton term that she had removed the files of deputy White House counsel Vince Foster after his suicide.

More detail and background from Huffington Post and the New York Post.

Other incongruencies: Clinton camp has said part of the reason for Solis Doyle “stepping down” is to spend more time with her family. Why then do other aides from Clinton Camp say this:

Importantly, aides stressed that Solis Doyle will begin to travel with Clinton, arguably giving her even greater access to the candidate’s ear. She plans to spend time helping Clinton in Texas, where she has close ties, and will appear as a surrogate on Clinton’s behalf.

Since when does traveling help you spend more time with your family? And yes, we already know Mrs. Solis-Doyle is tagging along to help with the large amount of Hispanic voters in Texas.
